I want to move

Posted by Alei at 10/23/2008

Blogger is my second home. This has been my address for about several months now. Apart from its friendly features, web site service is offered for free which makes my blogging hobby easy and convenient. But, just like other bloggers would prefer to have, having my own domain exerts a powerful pull in my imagination. I am still hesitant to have my own for two major reasons. First, having my own domain would definitely mean a fall of my Alexa and Technorati rankings which I find distressing. But, given that there are traffic sites, especially superb Entrecard, this problem can be persistently be solved it would just take time over. I am optimistic that I can build them back once more for my new domain. If I have done it before, I can do it again. =) The second bigger reason is the fact that I do not know how to have my own domain. Sounds silly? Hehe Forgive me. I have no one to ask about this stuff. There are many sites offering web hosting services but I am clueless on which is the best to use. Questions like “What does it require to have one?” and “Do I need to fix some sort of configuration?” continue to perplex my mind the very thought of me having a new address. I want to move. If not now, when can I?

I am aware that if not all, almost all bloggers have risked to encounter and conquer this dilemma successfully. Would you mind helping me with my momentous move? Hehe I can be reached through marielle_abe (at) yahoo (dot) com. Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I know it all sounds hectic with having your own domain, but there very good hosting companies out there that offer great support.

It will be a bit scary, but you will learn fast. I just jumped in with having nothing and now I can say that I know my way around my hosting companies control panel.

Good luck.

I recently purchased my own domain (for my Kiki's Corner blog) from Google through Blogger, which cost only $10 for the whole year. I like that fact that even though I have my own domain I can still use Blogger to write posts and add features to my blog.

I've just started a new blog that covers these sorts of issues. If you have specific questions, come over and ask.

I run mostly WordPress sites, but you can back up Blogger blogs to WP.

If you're looking for cheap hosting, you can check out NearlyFreeSpeech.Net (they don't have an affiliate program, in case you are wondering). You have to be willing to learn some things to host there, but the community is very helpful.

HI RIel. I was able to purchase all my domains from Blogger and there's no need for you to configure anything, all you have to do after the purchase is wait for 3 days for your old site to be redirected to your new site. BLOGGER will do everything for you. You will pay for only 10$/ a year. If you need my help, do add me at YM, eleyn29(at)yahoo(dot)com.

BTW, I would like to make a favor. Kindly edit the contest post you had here before. There were more sponsors added to the list and the prizes were modified as well. Just copy the codes in the contest post at my blog. Do let me know when you're done with the changes.

Thanks and see you around!

No reason to worry about moving. You have a good blog, and especially with Entrecard the traffic will come quickly enough. Good luck with the move!

Purchase your domain from 1and1, they are the best domain registrar in the planet. You can have a domain of your own for just $6.99, I have two domains bought from them. It is easy to point your Blogger blog to your new domain, just a few clicks and you are ready. There is a good guide written by The Lady Programmer that you could read when you set up your new domain. I hope you find it useful :)

I had this kind of dilemma myself before... and like you are experiencing now, I had no idea about domains and hosts... though good thing there are people who are kind enough to give me some idea.

you just need a paypal account or a credit card, and a working e-mail for the application... you are all set.

I purchased my domain from go daddy since it's one of the most reliable and popular. it took me a little while to find some tweaks about hosting my blog at blogger with my personal domain. good thing there are blogs that has tutorials on them. if you decided to purchase your domain at godaddy, these blogs were able to help me set up my blog :

Hope you'll find the best domain host suitable for your needs and taste ^__^
